Is 25 a good ACT score for a sophomore?

Hello. I'm a sophomore, going into my junior year at high school. I just took a practice ACT on the ACT's official online review, and scored a 25.

English: 27
Math: 26
Reading: 22
Science: 26

I was very close to scoring a composite 26.

Is this a decent score considering I did nothing to prepare?

I am going to take the official ACT in September, and I plan to keep preparing until then. I will also take it in March 2014.

Do you think I have a chance of boosting it up to a 30, considering I will prepare this summer AND I will be taking a one trimester ACT prep class this school year?

Also. I am now (for the first time in my life) reading books on a regular basis (which should help my reading score).

Also. I’m currently number one in my class (4.00 unweighted). I know grades don’t really correlate, though.

not really a good score.

number 1 in your class and getting a 25…hm :stuck_out_tongue:
I got a 29 my sophomore year (:

It’s not great but it’s not bad.

I think it’s something I can build off of. Do u think I could get a 30 after studying?

You may be able to get to a 30. I recommend taking it again the fall of your senior year if you aren’t happy with your March 2014 scores. Look for colleges that superscore so you can pick out the best scores from each test content area and combine them for a better overall score. Really focus on your reading score. Maybe pick up a Reading-specific ACT prep book as well as an overall ACT prep book.

Depends on what colleges you’re looking at.
It’s below average on here, but above average in real life. I’m sure you could raise it with practice. Ultimately, I raised my score 7 points from my first practice test in sophomore year to my final score in junior year.
I don’t know why you’d pay to take it without any prep, though. You should have just taken a practice test.

Try the SAT too, it may be more your speed. But I’d say 25 is good for a Sophomore considering a 21 is average.

How is the SAT different than the ACT?

You’re a sophomore and that’s above average for your grade. Good is subjective, but technically “good” is above average, which ACT stats show is over a 21. Yes you can study to improve your scores, please don’t get a bigger inferiority complex because a few people on CC called your score “weak”. Factually, for your grade, it is not.

A 25 is the score I received the first time I tested. It is completely possible to get your score to a 30. I got mine to a 35. Don’t let people discourage you. If you want to get it, work for it.

Lmao no… This is college confidential not community college confidential.

Eh.

It’s not great, but it’s not horrible.

And yeah, it is definitely possible to raise your score. Five points isn’t that hard to get.

If you work hard it’s possible! I really increased my scores on the SAT and my final superscore pretty much equals what I got on the June ACT. Some Juniors in my grade didn’t even get a 25 and did worse. You’re in reach definitely I was able to achieve my dream score when it didn’t even seem possible. Just prep and study

Yeah, I’d say you can definitely raise it to a 30! In my sophomore year I took the plan and got a 25 (which predicted a score of like 26-30) and I got a 34 this year, without too much prep, just the natural progression of learning I guess! (And some SAT prep)

SAT math prep will prep you for ACT math and will get you prepped for the PSAT and SAT math sections as well (for National Merit).

Anyway, it depends on where you want to go. Being a sophomore you have tons of room for improvement so don’t sweat it.

You’ll probably raise it 5 points naturally just by learning more stuff and being more acquainted with the test.

I was in the same boat as u… I got a 25 and was Disappointed so i took it a year later and got a 31. I had so many people tell me it would be impossible for me to raise it more than 5 Pts. Including my dean. DONT listen to anyone who is telling u u can’t. The ACT is all about timing. Did you complete all the questions before the time ran out? Did u have to randomly fill in bubbles at the end??
