Is 33 good enough for elite schools?

Is a 33 on the ACT good enough for HYPSM or is it borderline?

It's certainly competitive. Probably around 60th percentile. But then again they turn down numerous people with 36s and accept 30s. So don't sweat your standardized test score, as long as you're in the range, you'll be fine.

perfectly fine. remember that is only one part. They probably will see the 33 and put it aside because its good enough, and move on to other important factors.

haha HYPSM is like 34 + to be relatively a bit safer.

33 is good enough anywhere though, it just depends on the rest

A score like that gets you into the consideration pool, then they look at other important factors in your app. Ivies and other top schools get more than enough 33+ than they have room to admit, so you really need to find ways to distinguish yourself from the rest of the pack through extracurriculars and high school grades.

So in short a 33 will likely get you considered, but definitely won't guarantee you acceptance. In fact there's no such thing as an ACT score that will guarantee acceptance considering that top schools reject 36s every year. 33 is a great score though. Keep up the good work and I'm sure you'll do fine.

nope. that's terrible. how could you do so badly?

haha jk. its fine. don't worry about it at all. one score isn't gonna make or break you, but stressing over it and not doing well on the other parts will :)

"Probably around 60th percentile."

um.. a 33+ is almost always 99th percentile (sometimes [rarely] 33 is 98th percentile, but 99% of the time, it's the 99th percentile)

i consider a 33+ to be the "magic number" for all colleges.. this is a very competitive score and is pretty much set.. now it's on the ECs, leadership, and essays

"haha HYPSM is like 34 + to be relatively a bit safer."

not necessarily.. the middle 50% for the ACT at all those schools is 30-34.. so a 33 is close to the 75% range (a 33 is probably in the 65-70% range).. of course, the SAT is more popular at these schools, but the ACT is perfectly fine as well

really, as long as you get a 33+, your set (in terms of test scores), and it's now up to everything else on your application (all the non-academic stuff)

and really, these top schools are pretty much crapshoots anyway

^ He was saying 60th percentile among students who attend ivy league/elite schools.

^^ ohhhh, gotcha

sorry
