is 4 AP classes in junior year too much?

I am planning on taking AP us history, language and comp, statistics, and chemistry. Do you think it is too much for one year?

Tough to answer the question. Depends on you. Some people can handle that schedule without any issues (some could handle 1-2 more APs). Others would struggle with only 2 of those APs. Some people here have huge biases against AP chemistry (and Physics and calc for that matter) as if they should only be taken by kids who plan to be engineers or chemistry/physics majors. But there are kids who take those classes (and do very well in them) with no intention of being an engineer or chemistry/physics major.

What classes have you taken so far and how have you done in them? How much do you study each night? Are any of those proposed classes outside your comfort zone in terms of aptitude?

Are you taking any AP’s classes now and how are you doing in them? You want to have a strong GPA now and throughout junior year. Most schools don’t expect all classes to be AP. What are your interests? Pick classes you will enjoy and have the time to study in. If you are already have a 4.0, have taken a few AP classes, and like the challenge, then you can probably handle four AP’s. My son is a junior and currently taking 4 AP’s. It’s can be difficult at times, but manageable if aren’t over committed with EC’s or a job. Some of his friends are taking 2 AP’s due to this…so it can depend on your specific situation. Good luck!

My daughter has 4 this year and is a junior. AP US history is really time consuming. The rest seem to be more manageable. In addition to APUSH She has AP Physics, AP Lit, AP Calculus. She works 4 hours a night and most of Sunday. If your can handle that kind of time commitment go for it.

At my school, only one AP class is permitted sophomore year. I am in AP seminar, and currently have a 94 in the
class.I would love to become a doctor, and I am willing to put in 4-5 hours each night for studying or homework. I currently don’t know my GPA, (I know freshman isn’t a big deal) but I have straight A’s in all honors plus one AP.

AP Seminar, I have a 94 overall through mid year. I have a job, but am planning on cutting shifts next year, and I don’t participate in EC’s, except maybe NHS next year. I have over a 4.0 this year, I had a 3.0 last year but I stepped up my game this year with straight A’s in all honors and one AP

I would drop one. Seminar, though rigorous, is very different than other ap classes. I think it’ll be hard to adjust from your current schedule to 4, and you’d probably be putting in more than five hours a night with 4.

I’ve spoke with the stats teacher, the class is not too hard, she said I will get more homework in y honors pre-calc class. So that leaves me with three difficult, and two especially difficult.

My daughter has taken 4 Honors and AP junior and senior years and managed the workload fine. She’s in a very demanding EC as well. If you can handle the workload, go for it. If your grades may slip don’t overextend yourself. It depends on the type of student you are.

APUSH is a ton of work. The diificulty aside, you need to be mindful of the workload (homework) bc it can be heavy!

Our school recommends no more than 3 junior year.

I am anticipating 4-5 hours of homework a night combined… correct me if I’m wrong, but if that was the case, I would be fine with that.

Upperclassmen would know best how long each night will be! Good luck!

I would recommend AP Lang for sure because it helps in all other classes, then either AP Chem or APUSH. AP Stats can be taken jr or sr year.
I’m concerned you’re not doing EC’s - if you’re aiming for top 100 colleges or honors colleges, they’ll expect at least one EC and/or job to which you’re committed and where you show leadership.

ive had a job at a restaurant since last year, and participate in business teams to improve the business… does that count?

Yes

Yes. Keep doing it

I was thinking of tutoring Algebra one or geometry kids, (currently in ALg. 2 with a 110), would that also count as an EC? I’m not too big on sports or clubs so I’m looking for a unique approach at getting some activities in.

It depends on how your teachers run the classes and how you are as a student. I’m currently taking four junior year, and it’s absolute heck, however that is due to a few specific teachers’ policies (I have one that only gives one day advanced notice for tests which leads to frantic cramming and another who’s a first year AP teacher who is a bit oblivious). If you know the teachers are going to reasonable and you can handle the workload, do it. Here’s my impressions on a few of the courses you described.

English Language and Composition: I find it easy (I actually find the class to be kinda boring and slow), however some of my friends who generally get worse grades in humanities are struggling.

APUSH: depends on your teacher. My school’s course is being taught by two teachers, one who no one complains about, and one who makes the course absolute heck (I have the second). Try asking some students who have taken the course what they thought about it.

Chemistry: again, very teacher based. Most people in my school find the material reasonable, but the tests absolute murder. That is, again, due to a teacher-specific policy. Similar to APUSH, try and ask around.

Overall, I think four is doable, however you have to do your research and see how much physical workload each teacher is going to ask of you.

16 :yes it counts. :)

I know all 4 of the teachers and they are all reasonable… How much homework do you get each night? Aside from the studying because that sounds like hell
