what was it like for students who took 4 classes? was it too much?

i signed up for math 31B, chem 20A, french cinema and culture, and english comp 3

im wondering if itll be too much? i've already taken calc BC and chem AP though, but im planning on going to grad school so i figure ill take the courses again

For the first quarter of freshman year, i would suggest u to take it easy and get to know the system, how hard it is, and where to actually physically to go.

While Noxfinitie’s advice is the standard one everyone gives to freshmen, I think it depends on the professors that you have. If you have Scerri for chem 20A, all you need to do is listen closely during lecture, take good notes, and study out of his course reader and you will do fine in his class without extraneous effort. If you have an easy engcomp3 teacher, then you won’t do much work the entire quarter. I had a professor that had us do two papers the entire quarter, easiest A at UCLA so far.

Don’t know much about the other two classes.

Gotlactose, what professor was that? :P

Personally, I think that’s not a bad schedule at all.
Math 31B is a fairly easy class if you have a solid base in Mathematics.
Chem 20A for me was a “straight-out-of-the-course-reader” class.
English Comp 3 is a joke. 2 papers and an A+!

So while you are taking four classes (which is more than what is usually recommended)- I think you’ll be fine since none of them are OMG-crazy-difficult difficult. I myself took 4 classes and a Fiat Lux my first quarter and aced it (never happened again since ).
