Is 5 AP classes and a sport too much?

I’m really having a hard time thinking if I can handle 5 ap classes with a sport in junior year, I want to take these but I also don’t want to die:
AP calc AB
AP lang
AP chem
APUSH
AP comp sci A
chinese III
swim

Right now i’m a sophomore taking these classes:
AP world history Grade: A
AP computer science principles Grade: A
Trig/ precalc honors Grade: B
english honors Grade: A
chinese II Grade: A
chem honors Grade: A
(no sport)

As long as you don’t procrastinate too much, and make sure you work very hard when your sport is in season, you should be fine.

damn that’s going to be hard, I procrastinate quite a lot.

It sounds like a lot to me. I’d save Comp Sci for senior year.

idk thing is in senior year I plan to take these ap classes:
AP calc

AP gov (maybe)
AP lit
some kind of ap science, definitely not apes

if I save comp sci for senior year i would have 5 ap classes.
I’ll think about getting rid of something tho, maybe AP gov so I’ll have 4 instead.

Have you taken a physics course yet? I’d make sure you take one of those before graduation.

@zbthsjunior I haven’t, I probably will take that senior year as my ap science. But my school’s physic teacher is really bad so i’m kind of hesitant to say i’m going to take it for sure.

I’d make sure you take one, it doesn’t have to be AP but it’s good to have some background on physics before college.

@zbthsjunior will do, thanks for the advice.

Lol I don’t know why anyone hasn’t said anything realistic. How are you gonna take AP Chem and APUSH in the same year, along with 3 other AP? Also, I know from my friends that swimming is really time consuming. Take one of the two mentioned above, or just cut out 1 or 2 of the other APs (not Calc).

Just take online gov over the summer if your school offers. In my opinon, that class is such a waste- at least when faced with taking AP Gov vs AP Calc/Chem. I also think APUSH is a waste of effort and time too. What are you getting out of that class other than college credit for one history class? Take AP Chem, cut APUSH and push AP CS to senior year and you’ll do fine.

How hard is the AP work now without a sport? A sport can either make you more organized, or it can cause a loss of sleep as you will have to stay up late studying. If you aren’t going for the most competitive schools, 4 AP’s are fine. Also depending on what you’re looking to study in college, physics would be important. Does AP chem fall in line with your possible major? That class can be very difficult, not sure if Honors is available? That would be another option if you wanted to keep AP Comp Sci, or drop AP Comp Sci for a business or finance course. Focus on your interests and how much time you will have with your sport, this may lead you a direction.

The issue is that all of your AP classes follow a logical progression from this year’s schedule, (chem honors to AP, English honors to AP, etc). But its a tough course load. What other science classes have you taken? You should get bio, physics, and chem in high school so you could take one that you haven’t taken as an honors and save AP Chem for senior year.

@jcmom716 I don’t really know what I want to become in the future so i’m taking these classes so I have options to choose from in the future and I want to take an AP science class because I want to go to a good college. I am already in chem honors and I chose to do AP chem because the other AP science classes at my school either really don’t benefit/interest me or I am planning to take it senior year (ap physics). I really want to take AP comp sci A because so far that is something I consider to be a possible career path.

@snowfairy137 I have taken honors bio freshman year and plan to take AP physics senior year.

@Anish14 Yeah I also don’t really think 5 ap classes and a sport is realistically manageable, but I want to somehow take all these classes. I think I might push comp sci to senior year and take gov over the summer like you said.

I would get rid of APUSH unless your truly interested as it will take a lot of time out of your schedule doing reading/writing homework
