Even If You Apply Ed?

Out of 2400, most definitely. Out of 1600, it hurts, but with a good app otherwise, you're fine.

i"d have to say yes... but you might have a chance at getting in if you have good grades, EC, etc.

its very low...u ll need something extremely amazing on your application with that score. you are a junior , right? if so, you should have enough time to bring it up...

are u black? native american? Jewish?

Are ur parents separated?

Do u work?

Do u have a special circumstance?

are u a 4.0 student?

etc.

I doubt that you could get into Cornell with a 1200...that just seems way too low...

yes even if you have some significant circumstance, 1200 wouldnt cut it no matter what...at least 1300+ for cornell....

It's always possible

Athlete?

That's the only way, in my opinion.

qtipkorea4u: for a minority, that comment was pretty racist...equating low SAT scores for certain races and religions. if you think asians are the only smart race, you are being very ignorant. open your eyes: there are other smart people out there.

Racist, what? It's pretty well documented that being a URM definetly increases admission chances. I don't think anything he said was out of line, all those things are generally considered hooks/positives in increasing admission chances.

being jewish isnt considered a URM because it ISNT A RACE! hellooooo?!?!?!? i know plenty of smart URMs and Jews (for that matter) who would put qtipkorea's SAT score to SHAME...which he was embarrassed to report it as a 1920.

it wasn't out of line, but i could understand why the question does raise some hairs (could've been worded differently though). i personally have not encountered any blacks/latinos/native americans at cornell who had a 1200 SAT alone. i think people, when trying to establish the impact being an underrepresented minority has on admissions, often aim too low. but, then again, i don't blame them. also, i know some whites/asians who had lower stats than some blacks and hispanics at cornell. the issue at hand is whether or not it is wrong--after only seeing a low SAT score--to assume that such a score would "benefit" an underrepresented minority. that right there is ignorant and offensive. admissions decisions are made based off of more than an SAT score, whether or not the applicant is a minority or not.

i just want to hear what qtipkorea has to say

I'd just like to point out that Cornell has very low SAT ranges compared to other top universities, and these people that will tell you that you'll automatically get rejected with a 1200 are just trying to assert their own, perhaps even good, scores.

1200 isn't great, it isn't bad. Ultimately, Cornell will decide whether to accept you or not based on other factors - not just your number.

Jews do amazing with scores!!! they are WAY over represented, something like 35% of Columbia College is Jewish. By the way, I am Jewish

Yes you definitely have a chance with a 1200, however your chances are 1/2 of what they would be if you had a better score. Good Luck

First of all, sorry if I offended anyone in any such way.

Maybe I wasn't any help for that person who created this thread, but I wrote things that I learned through CC. It "seemed" like admission chances differentiate a lot through those factors.

Especially since a lot of colleges do consider holistic reviews on their applicants, nobody will never know if you will get in or not.

But I do know that I never said that he/she will ever have a chance or not.

Plus I was not being Racist if that makes anyone feel better.

Everyone has a chance! but nobody will never know and can tell anyone if they will get in or not since admission process is dealt upon agreements in 3 or more admission officers.

P.S. I NEVER looked down on his/her score and I do have a freakin' 1900 SAT and I am applying to Cornell.

I have a friend who got in with 1800 or something close.

absolutely, qtipkorea4u. i knew that you weren't being "racist" at all : ) don't take any of the criticism too hard. just pointing out (at least i was) the message i felt the comment could convey.

"that you'll automatically get rejected with a 1200 are just trying to assert their own, perhaps even good, scores."

i think when people say that anyone will automatically be rejected with such a score they're not 'serious.' and cornell's scores are not as lower than other top universities as your post would make them out to be. also, i don't think anyone applying to any college should be counted out with a 1200 SAT score. as i wrote earlier, admissions is much more than the SAT.
