it’s really impressive to get a 2400 and a 3.0 without honors or AP classes

cmon, man. got higher than that when i was 8th grade, and I was once in ESL too.

i would agree that the person is inadmissible. bad grades, scores and ecs is a deadly cocktail that ends in rejection. maybe he can go to santa barbera. also what do you expect from posting this kind of stuff in cc. its not like any of us can help you get in

You need to stop asking the same question over and over again. Everyone on this forum is trying to give you an honest answer and nothing is going to change that.

Yeah, being Hispanic is great, but there are more than enough latinos around the world that Ivy League institutions would rather take with better scores, grades, and EC’s.

An 1800 is not going to cut. I’d say the lowest, with great GPA’s and EC’s, is a 1950 (29) for Cornell. Other Ivies are going to be almost impossible with that score and the 3.0 GPA, which just about disqualifies him from being admitted. Additionally, he’s going to have to have an incredible application that makes him unique enough and seem like the “perfect fit” for the school of his choice. Remember, these top schools have personalities. They pick and choose based on your character and motivation in some cases.

Also, your friend needs to do some more research. I hate when people come on these boards talking about chances because they want to get into an “Ivy.” With those scores, your friend would be more than fine striving to get into an adequate, 2nd tier university and then transferring to a better school if being “Ivy” is all he dreams about. There’s more to education than being in the Ancient 8, and some universities are better than 4 or 5 of the Ivies.

To be fair, I knew several kids with lower score than that who got into top Ivies. Two kids from my high school both got into Harvard, and one of them had 27 ACT and the other 26 ACT. Both were white guys, but they were both recruited athletes.

In summary, even if you are dumb as a rock, you can get into a top college if you can play sports.

yes it is possible, it is always possible. it will probably be hard. ilrs is probably the easiest school if he can demonstrate a real interest in the major

Well, now you’re bringing in recruited athletes and that’s not the case here…

Regardless, I hope the applicant fares well in admissions. I really do wish him the best of luck because I know what it’s like not having the best test scores. Yes, there’s hope beyond test scores, just write good essays.

Keep us updated!

OK. What if he takes the february ACT and somehow manages to get a 36? Would that at least give him a chance?

P.S. Thank you popcharlie93 for being one of the few positive people on this thread.

And if he cures cancer in February, that’ll boost his chances even more.

norcalguy, I got a perfect score on both exams, the ACT and the SAT, and if I was able to achieve a perfect score on the ACT, then my friend is just as capable of doing so.

You’re welcome.

Norcalguy, that’s really helping the situation…

A high test score and a low GPA would, in my eyes, seem bad because it makes the applicant look lazy. However, an improved test score would help more than it would hurt. The likelihood of a 36, though higher than the probability of a 2400, is extremely low.

I’d say a good test score to aim for: 31+ It usually puts you in the 25th-50th percentiles of the schools you’re looking at.

^The guy’s a ■■■■■ in case you haven’t figured it out. He even makes it easy with his screen name.

In his first post ever on CC, he says that he himself is Hispanic, has been in the US for 2 years, has a 3.0 GPA, a 2400 SAT score, a 36 ACT score, 800’s on 7 SAT II’s.

We all know many 3.0 students score 2400 on the SAT.

Clearly, the reasonable thing to do after scoring a 2400 is to take the ACT (of course, you’d score perfect on that test too).

Of course, it’s totally reasonable to take 7 SAT II’s because clearly 3 is not enough.

And, yes, let’s take the SAT II Spanish test not once but twice because it’s just so much fun to take the SAT’s (scoring 800 both times of course).

Then he asks about his “friend” who is Hispanic, has a 3.0 GPA, has been here 1.5 years, and has a more reasonable 1800 or whatever the true score is.

You’re going to be a doctor so here’s the first tip to you from someone graduating medical school in 5 months: patients ask about their “friends” all the time. It’s not really their friend.

Oh and patients lie and make up stuff.

sorry, i don’t think it’s good enough. At least 2000

Honestly, if someone like this gets into Cornell, I would fear for the future of my alma mater

Thanks for the advice, norcalguy. :P

Congrats on making it through the 8 years!
How fast did it go by?

Really fast.

Enjoy your college and med school years. They will be the best years of your life. There will be hard times but nothing like when you start out on nightfloat or ICU on your first day as an intern and you’re by yourself. The MD behind your name doesn’t feel like much then.
