Is a 1920 good enough?

The first time I took the SATs (sophomore year) I received a:
620 Math
560 CR
550 Writing
Total: 1730

My 2009 SAT scores (junior year) are:
670 Math
630 CR
620 Writing
Total: 1920

I plan on taking them one more time beginning of senior year. I know I can get into the 700's for math. I actually really thought I would have gotten at least a 750 this time. I struggle in the writing section most, but I definitely think I can improve more on CR.

I know that's kind of pushing it. But is it possible to get into Cornell with that score and a good GPA, Class Rank, and enough extracurricular activities?

how about you try ACT…soemtimes students do better there!

yes, my SAT was lower than a 1900

yea it’s good enough…cornell doesn’t care about your sat’s act’s…they just want to know if you can succeed

Alright, that’s a relief to hear.
I’m definitely going to take the ACTs early next year, and possibly a couple subject tests.
Thanks !

^when these folks say cornell won’t care about your scores, they are unfortunately mistaken.

unless you’re a recruited athlete, you will likely not get in.

^wrong, because i got lower than even 1900 and i don’t do sports yet i got in.

^ agreed. same boat.

there’s no “set score.” people who score 2400 can be rejected, while those who score lower than 1900 can be accepted. a higher score generally increases your chances, but you really never know.

IBfootballer: I’m not saying Cornell doesn’t care, I think they do take into account way more though if everything else is good. I know for a fact my essays, ec’s and gpa got me in, not my SAT or ACT scores. Cornell definitely favors higher scores but they look at each applicant individually.

^ftw (10char)

A score in the 1900s doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t get in. As some of the above posters have shown, it is possible to get in with those scores, provided other strong factors. But the reality is that the odds are stacked somewhat heavily against a person with a score in the 1900s. Your chances also depend on which college within Cornell you’re applying to. A college like Engineering might place much more emphasis on stats, whereas the Hotel school might be more likely to look past less-than-perfect scores and focus more on personal qualities and interest in hospitality.

^ true datttt

If you are in the top 10% of your class, have EC’s that are aligned with your intended course of study, good essays, and great recommendations you will have a “good” (10-20%) chance of acceptance. If any of these other factors are weak and you are not a URM your chances are less than 5%.

i would retake it to get above the 2000 threshold, that and make sure to kick ass on your subject tests like at least 700+, preferably 750+.

If your a urm/athlete, I doubt legacy’s with 1900s can get in…

just take the sats over again, my score was a 1930, my first time and then it jumped to a 2200, my second time…But I was still rejected from Cornell…
