Title says it all. Just got a 2140 on my SAT, and although I was expecting better, I'm wondering if this is an acceptable score for Caltech, assuming everything else is good. I do plan on retaking, but right nbow I'm just curious.

I hope so, cuz that's what I got. I was deferred this year so it's not horrible enough for a rejection.

Being Caltech, I'd assume they'd like it if the math score was higher than the other 2, so if you had like 800 math or close to it and bad scores on CR and W then they might not care as much. Just speculation though

That's about what my score was when I applied two years ago, and I was accepted. But as GleasSpty said, it depends on the breakdown- if it's 800CR, 800W, 540M, you're screwed. If your math score is high enough (750+), it's fine and you being accepted will depend on the rest of your app.

I got my scores too... Got 2180... 740 M 710 R and 730 W... Last time I took I got 750 in M.... But I have a 790 in Math IIC of SAT Subject Tests... Will the SAT I Math score hurt my chances any? I think its a pretty good score... Right?

Shruth, I think you'll be fine. It will depend on the rest of your app. SAT Scores are only a basic starting point when considering applicants (to my knowledge).

I got in with a 2140 SAT score (780 M), so I guess it's good enough?

I got 760 Math, 710 Writing and 670 Critical Reading, is that good or should I aim for an 800 math?

wolfer, what did u get in SAT II Math?

I got 800 in math but w 640 and r 680.. will that be fine for an international applicant...

Wow pacific34, that's exactly what I got.

Actually nvm, I got a 660 on W lol. close enough

I guess :) Thanks~

hey gleasspty are u also an international applicant......so are u retaking the SAT1....i'm retaking in Jan

I don't believe a "bad" (by Caltech standards) SAT score is going to kill you, but you'll have to have some other redeeming factors (which you probably would have anyways if you're going to be accepted).

No I'm from the US, and I don't plan to retake. I did get a 35 on the reading on the ACT, but that was a fluke. I was just really hot that day. I don't think i could replicate such a score on the SAT reading unless I got lucky. And to be honest, I really don't think Caltech cares too much.
