duke isn't a tier 2 school, it's ranked 9th in the nation.

Our Berkeley tour guide told us that the average SAT score for the class of '11 was around 2100 (31ish). I'm not sure if that's accurate info though.

It's not. Its own website, http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/freshmen.asp, says the mid-50% range is 1800-2170. The mean is usually around the middle of that range and that is 1985.

bump.....................

yeah there's no way this is right

Northwestern's ACT range for the class of 2011 was 30-34, so now in line with princeton and rice

ouch..... i dont think i can get into any 30-34 schools

sure you can, one out of every four students at those schools has below a 30, even after adjusting for athletes it's probably still around 1/5

just emphasize other areas of your application that are stronger, such as ECs, leadership, writing ability, talent in playing a musical instrument/debating/painting/whatever

don't be discouraged, a 29 is still very good, and if that's the weakest part of your app, you're in good shape

Thank you elsijfdl. You give hope to many students in similar predicaments.

ok well i dont mean to brag but I think I'm pretty unique... the secret to not getting rejected is to stand out... I'm an Eagle scout, jazz band statewide, tennis team, 600 hrs comm service.. i work for the city government and I sent a video of my dance. The dance will be the only thing that will make me stand out. :(

My numbers aren't the best though. ranked in top 20 percent and around a 3.5 uw gpa and 3.8 weighted... but i took 25 college classes and 12 AP's...

i hope colleges weight all my out of school college classes, then My gpa is a 4.18 and my rank is 6/556. Also i got my lowest grades during freshman year and I had a huge upward trend since then. What would that do for me?

my problem is i took the hardest classes.. like one summer I took 10 colleeg classes.... but I got some B's.

i just hope i get into ucla/uc berkeley or at least 1 private school out of those 15 schools -_-

at Stanford only 11% of kids were ranked out of the top 10% of their class.

i don't think your ECs will carry you through at top tier schools.

sucks that admissions are mostly about numbers

bump...................................

college admission at top privates isn't mostly about numbers...but they do use test scores to help narrow down the applicant pool, from what i understand. You applied to a pretty top-heavy range of schools...it's too late now for most schools, but some top publics and some good private schools are still accepting applications...how about michigan? i think your test scores and grades put you in range, and it's a great school. it is also not the end of the world if you end up at davis or irvine...they are good schools, and trust me, getting into a highly regarded private school is not the be-all-end-all of your existence!

the problem with my high school years was that i took over 25 college courses and I just found out a month ago that my counselor and school won't weigh 14 of them. If they did, then I would be ranked 6/556 and a weighted GPA of 4.18... but my unweighted wouldn't change as I have gotten many B's in high school and a few C's.
