Well is it? Do colleges view them as the same? I mean the only diff is that you got an A- in one of your classes.

no, a 3.9 is failure. a 4.0 is perfection

is a 3.4 the same as a 4.0, absolutely nott, 3.4 is some much more refreshin anyway, muahaha.

and yea i mean 3.4!

It doesn't make a difference.

uh.... no?

Mmm.... well, if you were asking is a 3.8 the same as a 3.9, maybe, if you were like in the upper 8,s like, 3.89 - then you could probably say 3.9. But see, with a 4.0, you're going up with the digit BEFORE the decimal point. Logically, yeah, if you had a 3.99, it's ALMOST a 4.0... but if you look at them, they're just so different.

guess it depends on ur school. Is it generally easy to get all A's? What's ur rank?

I agree with wrathofgod. Taking the gpa by itself doesn't mean anything. There are high schools were 40 or more people are tied for valedictorian. If your school ranks, they will use that to decide what the difference is between a 3.9 and 4.0. If your school doesn't rank, then they will still look at the high school's profile that is sent in with your transcript. (If you want to see the profile, ask your GC/Registrar.)

I had a 3.7, which is almost a 3.8, which is almost a 3.9, which is almost a 4.0. So they must be around the same. :p

Shut up, it's a true story.

Like Sydney Bristow said, it's all psychological. No substantial difference, but it still makes an impact and the instinct for anyone I think would be to go for the 4.0 instead of the 3.9, even though the difference is practically inisgnificant.

mirrorofdirt: A crust of bread is better than nothing and nothing is better than true love, so using the transitive principle, a crust of bread is better than true love.

Exactly. :p

No.

a 4.0 is 0.1 higher.

what about my 3.98?

:P (unweighted)

0.02 difference

0.02=sleeping time

I am going to have to cut that out from now on. :p

seriously guys, will a college view a 3.9 as the same as a 4.0? or in my case a 4.9/5.0w? its the same to me, but i dunno about colleges.

and rank wont help me either. because i did bad in frosh and first sem of soph i have a bad rank 34/360. still, i have good grades now, but i doubt my rank is going to go up.

Now I'm not sure what you are talking about. How are you getting a 4.9 weighted, or was the 4.9/5.0 a typo that should have been 3.9/5.0? (You have unweighted, and then you have weighted which is never going to be a 4.9 on a 5.0 scale since not all of the classes are weighted.)

You did get an answer above. If it is a 3.9 weighted versus a 4.0 weighted, then the difference matter less.

Quoting Alias, lol. Jack is the best on that show - keeps the others in line. He has been a little too soft lately though.
