Is a 31 ACT good enough?

Are there any Northeast LAC's that will consider a 31 ACT? I'm not sure what my child's GPA is, but I'm a little worried because there are three C's so far. A lot of A's and B's too. Any advice?

A 31 ACT should be good enough. GPA might be good enough, but having C’s is never a good thing.

It all depends on how selective the schools your child is applying to are. Three C’s counts out a lot of schools your child could have previously applied to as a match with his/her ACT score, so you may want him to work on what he can fix, like future grades and better ACT score, as opposed to crying over spilled milk (not saying you’re complaining, just an idiom).

For now, try to get your child to devote all his/her energy into doing better academically and not worry too much about colleges.

Note: this is under the assumption that your DC/DS isn’t a rising Senior. If he/she is, then you have a plethora of resources and databases on the net… look at those and get a feeling of some realistic schools for your child.

My D was admitted at Cornell with a 31 ACT. However she only had 3 “B”'s & the rest “A”'s…no “C”'s. Took the most rigorous coures offerred at our school.

Exactly, you never know. But to be perfectly honest, cdad’s D was rather fortunate.

…well a 31 is really right at the 50th percentile for Cornell. However I did think her chances were below 50%. Letters of rec., essays, & outstanding leadership & excellence in her EC’s is what got her in.

Apologies, I’m not from the mid-west and am not exactly sure of the ACT score equivalent to the SAT. If a 31 is the 50th percentile, 3 B’s doesn’t do as much harm. I know of HYP students who’ve gotten 3 B’s. Congrats to your D, her acceptance is well deserved!
