Is a 32 good enough?

I've take the act twice and I've gotten a 32 both times. Most people would be thrilled about this, but I'm an unhooked white boy. Sure, I have a 4.0 in rigorous work, good volunteering and extracurriculars. But I'm afraid my "subpar" ACT score will hold me back from my dream schools such as brown, penn, columbia, duke, and unc (oos). Also, my ECs and volunteering are not stand out. Early decision is not a choice as I not financially capable of it. So... Is. 32 good enough?

No it’s not. Have you tried the SAT?

I have. And I’m more of the act type of person

It’s actually a pretty good score. For all the schools, this score is right in the middle of all the people admitted in 2012. Obviously, you could bring up your scores, so that you make schools have to accept you, but if you have really great essays and your EC’s, I don’t understand why you wouldn’t stand a chance: [Ivy League ACT Scores Comparison](Ivy League ACT Score Comparison for Admission)

Have you looked at the stats? B for instance:

Sure higher would be better, but does it mean that an unhooked 32 is out of the running? The numbers don’t show that. Just be sure to develop a realistic list of admission AND financial safety and match schools to go with your reaches (I refuse to say the D word ).

It’s good enough to not immediately eliminate you. Most unhooked admitted students will have a 34+ ACT, but if the rest of your application shines and you present a good enough case for admission, you may get in.

It is good enough for even the top schools like Stanford and Princeton, if you have a solid GPA, great ECs, great recommendations, and amazing essays to back it up too.

I’m going to have a right a hell of an essay I guess. Probably have to run for NHS president too. Oh well. Thanks for the input guys! I have to take ACT again in April because Illinois mandates it. The curving is better on this test because all of the ignints take it too so hopefully I will do better. And yes, I have financial safeties. College process sucks for us smart but not genius unhooked white kids :p
