Is a 33 ACT okay?

Hello,
I am a junior and took the ACT back in December. It was my first time taking it and I got a 33. I know that Columbia's mid 50% are is 31 to 35. That would make a 33 right smack dab in the middle.
I know that many schools do not take many students below their 50% mark.
I have given it much thought and have decided that I would rather be either sleeping or doing work instead of taking tens of practice tests to go up one or two points MAXIMUM.
Is a 33 good enough for Columbia?

Thank you very much,
Charlie

if they don't take students below their 50% mark, how could they fill 50% of their class with those people?

^^^ hahahahahaahaha

i think the OP meant that you will feel like you have a better chance if you are "safe"

I'm in the same boat (except for a different school, since I'm not applying to Columbia... I just saw this post on the "most recent posts" link). It just means you're going to have to make up for the 50th percentile score by having lots of leadership, community service hours, ridiculous courseload, etc. The people with the 35s just don't have to have as much ECs/other stuff because they're already at an advantage.

Basically, how does it compare to the people around you who applied to Columbia?

A 33 ACT is equivalent to around a 1470 out of 1600 SAT.
Honestly, you're perfectly fine.
I'd recommend concentrating on your SAT IIs now.

I don't know what you mean by this.

SAT/ACT conversion scales are weird. The increments are inconsistent and overlap. Like, I've seen a 32 be a 1420-1450, and a 33 be a 1450-1490.

Basically, anything 32 or above is good at any top 20-15ish university, and 33 and above is good for any college ranked above that above that.

All schools inevitably have 25% of students that are below the middle 50%.

He means that many schools do not take many unhooked students below the 50th percentile.

1440–1480, which is very strong.

A 34 would be the sweet spot for Columbia.

The Collegeboard used to have a conversation table based on the 2400 scale, but it's been taken down.

If I have a 34 ACT but a 1410 SAT (where once you do the ACT conversions, its around a 1500), would having the 1410 SAT be detrimental?

If there are five other people at his school applying with 35-36, then perhaps a 33 isn't ok.

If 33 is the top score in his high school, then yeah, it's fine.

Nothing means anything out of context.

a 33 would be a top score in almost any high school except an elite few, national as well, but not in respect to national applicants to columbia.

Dude, I'm pretty sure you're going to Community College.

Just Kidding, you're just fine.

Wait how about a 1550/1600 SAT vs a 2190/2400 SAT. How will colleges view this. Thanks
