Is a 660 SAT II Physics test a dealbreaker for EA?

I am applying to MIT Early Action. All of my application components are competitive (2360 SAT, 800 Math 2, 4.0 UW GPA, good ECs) except for my SAT II Physics test (660). I was planning on retaking for a 750+ in November, but I just found out that I will be attending a funeral the weekend of the Nov test date. So now I can't retake. Will one bad SAT II hurt my chances?

EDIT: One more thing...On the self-reported test scores on my application I indicated that I would be taking the Physics SAT II in Nov. This is no longer the case--I will be gone. The app is submitted, so I can't change it. Do I have to inform MIT of the change?

In an otherwise strong application, that won’t get you tossed out. You might want to shoot Admissions a quick email about the change.

Are you taking AP physics now? That would be a pretty good reason why you might score lower than 700.

No, my school doesn’t offer AP physics. I took regular physics last year though. Unfortunately, the teacher taught us very little (as you can see).

@collegealum314, I took AP Physics last year (and got a 4 on the AP Exam), but I only managed to get a 670 on the SAT II Physics test. Then again, it was the teacher’s second year teaching… Hopefully MIT will realize that too.

Okay let me rephrase this: Could the 660 be the difference between acceptance and rejection?

Anything’s possible…but realistically, no.

Well, I wouldn’t worry as much about it then. Any reasonable person would think that a non-AP class may not prepare you as well for the SATII. Since AP physics is not offered at your school, there should be no problem since you have taken the hardest courseload possible at your school.

by itself no; but combine with others issues may raise flag.

I got in (I only applied Regular) and I had a 650 on SAT Physics…

Now everyone is different. Each person has some upsides and downsides to their application. Now, I certainly believe that this was a weaker part of my application, but was it a deal breaker? No

I got in EA last year with a 650 on Physics. I also had a 600 on a different subject test (although that one was a bit flukey, I did well on the AP test of the same subject).

I am not from the states, took both math2 and physics for once only. i got 680 on math2 and 670 on physics. Do I still have a chance to go to MIT?
