is a 710 in us history (percentile 83) worth retakaking if applying to top schools?

s a 710 in us history (percentile 83) worth retaking if applying to top schools?

im just wondering my college counseler said it was not worth retaking but I'm not sure

I think it depends on your other scores. It you’re talking about the really most selective schools, then I don’t think a 710 would be the killer if your other scores are, say, 750+ or in that range. And in that case, personally, I don’t think it would be worth re-taking, although you’ll probably get differing opinions on that.

I think ^ is a reasonable approach. Don’t go nuts and look at your entire package.

my other one is a 730-750 i forget which, 2150 plus sat

I don’t know that anyone can really answer this for you. Do you think the 710 you got is a misrepresentation of your grasp of US history? I mean, if you think you should have gotten a much higher score, and have every reason to think you’d score higher if you had another crack at it… then take it again if you want to. I’m not sure it would make a difference in how schools will look at your total application. Test scores are important, but they might not be as important as grades, a tough curriculum, evidence of a compelling interest in something. I mean, once the scores (or most of the scores) are over 700, you’ve probably cleared a first hurdle and what’s in the rest of your application will carry more weight. Who really knows.

Just make sure to apply to a range of schools; reach, match, and a safety or two that you would be happy at. That’s the most important advice anyone will give you here on CC.
