I have heard the Muir campus is pretty close to everything. Is a bike really needed or will I be able to get around walking?

You can pretty much manage with just walking to wherever you need to go no matter what college you’re in, but it’s especially true for people living in Muir.

There are only a few horrible treks - like going from Warren Lecture Hall to York (uphill btw - nice little bonus) in 10 minutes - that would be made way easier by having a bike. However a lot of the main paths (like Library Walk) don’t allow bike-riding during most of the day so you’d have to work around that. I’d suggest instead working out the timing so you could just take the Campus Loop Shuttle, even if it means skipping out on one class early.

If you do bring a bike, make sure it’s cheap and/or enforce it with a hefty lock - otherwise you’ll be asking for it to be stolen.

That’s the biggest lie I’ve ever heard and you know that. “A lot” of the major paths? The only place in the whole campus that supposedly “doesn’t allow” bikes is Library Walk and it’s never enforced. People do it all the time and it’s unnecessary to do anyway. You would recommend the shuttle over a bike? The shuttle will take you twice as long. If you want to bring a bike, bring a bike. It’s not needed, but you’ll definitely gets places faster.

Definitely not necessary, I found walking to be much less of a pain in the ass.

Damn, my bad. Alright, so the rule is rarely enforced - you still have to deal with a ton of people walking on the main walkways between classes. Unless you want to be one of many ******y bicyclists who insist on jamming their way through the crowd, you’ll probably save more time just by walking to your next class.

^I still don’t agree to any extent that it’s faster, but I’ll admit there’s a lot of people to push through sometimes, but honestly, do you want to know how fast you can get from Marshall/ERC to Warren on a bike? It’s amazing.

I would recommend buying/bringing a bike. It’s just that much more convenient than walking. You can go anywhere on a bike, and you don’t have to worry about not getting to class on time.

there’s nothing wrong with trying out a quarter just by walking – you’ll know from your schedule alone whether your classes are walkable in the allotted 10 minutes. if you feel like you can’t survive without a bike, you can always jump on the bus to target, pick out a bike, and ride it back to campus (or put it on the bus to take back to campus).
