Is a bike useful or recommended @ UW?

Do a lot of kids have bikes on campus, and do they use them? It sounds like the Upass for the bus comes in handy for off campus, but what about on campus?

Bikes are definitely useful. Plenty of people use them (as well as scooters to a lesser degree). There are available bike racks around campus, usually outside main buildings like the residence halls and lecture halls. If you do bring a bike to campus, make sure to get a secure lock. There is actually a bike shop in the HUB that can help you with repairs, flat tires, and more.

As for the U-Pass, it is a really handy way to get downtown and around the city. It is also a convenient way of traveling through some parts of campus. There are buses that run from North to South campus and vice versa. There are several stops on campus including the HUB, the UW Medical Center, and a few other stops close to the residence halls. It gets easier as you ride it more often and find out the routes (check out the Trip Planner website--http://tripplanner.metrokc.gov/cgi-bin/itin_page.pl?resptype=U). Most of the time you'll be walking to class (the campus seems huge at first, but quickly becomes "small" when you know your way around).
