Is a C in a pre-req fatal?

hi guys

Im trying to transfer to ucla for bizecon/econ and Im getting a C in calc 1.
Its my only C, my gpa is around 3.7 as of now, but the C will probably lower my gpa. Im at a ccc no tap.

Do you think when they see a C in a pre-req they just reject automatically, esp. in such a competitive major?

Thoughts?

maybe for your major.

so glad i’m a history/anthro major. you science and business majors have so much pressure on you!

I say it depends, did you get a C in a macro/micro economics class or Accounting?

Or did you get a C in something substantially harder like Calculus?

I think its fatal for the former and not the latter.

yes it is. i also applied to UCLA as biz-econ with TAP and i was freaking out about my calc final because i didn’t want a B. my GPA is 3.93 without this semester’s grades.

you do not get auto rejected if that is your question. The cut off gpa is not 3.6 or what not.

this hurts you but it does not auto reject you due to their “holistic” approach.

What about a B in Calc 1 to UCLA for Econ?

Nothing is an auto rejection. As long as your GPA is within the right range, a bad grade in one class won’t kill you. Problem is, a C really hurts your overall and major GPA.

A C, especially in a 5 unit course, will absolutely kill your major GPA. Very unlikely you get accepted. Sorry.

Do you think if I moved to a cc with TAP and did an extra year and signed a TAP, then i could get in, even though i have a C in calc 1?

Overall GPA >>>> any grade in a single class

If your GPA is fine but you got a C or 2 in some classes it won’t really make a difference IMO.

He has no TAP and he’s applying to the BizEcon program, which is extremely competitive. I would be REALLY surprised if he got in. If the C was in some random general ed class, then maybe he would be fine, but it wasn’t.

Last year I believe some 4.0 applicants were not accepted into Bizecon. If a 4.0 doesn’t get in because they didn’t have TAP, don’t you think a student with a C in a major req and no TAP is almost assuredly going to get rejected?
