because, yeah, the internet is SERIOUS BUSINESS

no really, you don't need a car.

if you want access to wheels, join phillycarshare, which is cheaper, takes care of insurance and registration, and very convenient to campus.

okay thanks. is this philly car share flexible. I mean can i rent out a car in a spur of the moment manner, or do i have to reserve a couple days before. Thanks for advice that's actually CONSTRUCTIVE

Oh and jcoveney are you actually serious about your "strong" feelings or are you doing it for fun. I mean i can't see someone actually obsessing as you are right now over such a miniscule topic. whatever i can't believe i am actually wasting my energy... please can we continue with the thread.

This thread is now about Mao Zedong

He was a bastard communist but damnit, he made China what it is today

yeah reservations are key, but they can be done pretty quickly (there's a lot of cars around campus)

and the base cost is actually free (but then the hourly rate is a little higher - still cheaper than renting, or paying parking, or whatever) for students - catch is you must have a clean record and insurance.

and mao?

what about deng xiaoping?

Thank you i'll look into it. and please ignore that strange guy who has nothing else to do.

Okay, so would you guys say that this phillycarshare is the best replacement for a car, or would public transportation still be better. thanks again.

don't see why you can't do both, since phillycarshare base membership is free, and septa is better in a pinch (and less time-consuming in terms of making a reservation in advance and finding parking)...

and actually the majority of the current students on here know each other somewhat - they're just having fun, and so should you (chill, no need to worry)

yeah thanks, i'll try using both that seems to make sense. it's weird i'm not used to public transport cause on the west coast the public transportation is so pathetic and inefficient so i really don't know how it works in philly.

To the second part, My point is that there is no need for actual personal attacks, you know. why do that. whatever good vibrations (haha) everybody, let this now become a happy thread.

phillycarshare. org is all you need. From one driver to another ;)

All right Thanks. i'll be sure to check it out.

the hardcore bike to NY

are you a hippy gmurg? just curious.... :O

and pff, its all about the guys named Zao..or Zhao?...meh, we'll take em both! :)

Yeah there is no need to make fun of him, as it's a valid question for out-of-state future students who need to readjust to a new lifestyle. If any of you guys went outside your Philly-NYC bubble, people will find it odd that you don't have a car. I don't have a car here and sometimes it gets really frustrating.

I actually had the same question, and I did some research here and from other sources, and it definitely seems like phillycarshare is the way to go. I might get a car if I find myself living more than 5 miles away and I want to come into lab and run some late-night experiments, but that seems highly unlikely.

Plus, you don't have to pay insurance for phillycarshare if you're over 20 :)

Or maybe I'm from Dallas, and I drove more in a semester of high school than most people drive their entire high school careers, and a car is entirely unnecessary.

Dude I drove all the time in high school -- even outside of the Philly/NYC bubble, a car is totally not a requirement.
