Is a college asking for my mid-year grades a good sign?

I'm applying to University of Pittsburgh, but it's a pretty big reach for me (3.1 gpa 1820 on SAT's). Today they sent me a letter asking for my mid-year grades. Do they send this to most applicants they don't accept, or are many rejected without asking for mid year grades? So far my grades have been very good, all A's and B's in a decently difficult schedule.

Colleges asking for mid-year grades can mean a lot of things. However, some colleges like receiving mid-year grades from applicants because it shows how their current year is going. How did you perform in your senior year, with your hardest classes yet (I’m assuming), and while stressing over applications to colleges? It’s like a check-up. I have a friend attending Pitt right now. He was a great high school student, 4.0 GPA and perfect SAT and AP scores- Pitt still asked for his mid-year grades. Another friend is also applying, with lower scores than you, but they asked for mid-year grades. You should be fine. Good luck!

It also shows them exactly which courses you are taking during Senior year. That might be a component of their decision making process (e.g. ensure 4 years English, 4 Natural Sciences, upper level math, etc).

At least your still on the table and not in the discard pile.
