Is a degree in Business Management worth it?

I am having second thoughts on continuing my education to obtain my bachelors degree in Business Management and Human Resource. Is it a good major to get into or is it complete waste of time and money?

I will be getting my associates degree in Business Admin this spring but still contemplating if I should complete the business core classes to transfer to a 4 year university this Fall. I have three classes left to take (Business Law, Macro-economics, and stats). I applied to three CSU’s last October (CSULA, Cal Poly Pomona, and CSUDH). My transfer/cumulative GPA is really low (2.2), which will hurt my chances of getting into CSULA and CPP. So, if I continue pursuing this degree, I will most likely have to attend CSUDH, which I do not want since its one of the lowest CSU’s in the CSU system.

I am looking to study something that I will have no problems of getting a job after college.
For those of you already have a business degree in management, please share me your experiences in terms of getting a job after college.
I would appreciate any advice/input.

Thanks!

To be honest it sounds like you are trying to avoid the real issue which is your performance. The major isn’t good or bad (business after all is the most popular major) and your ability to obtain a job after is based on your candidacy which largely depends on your academic performance.

Maybe business isn’t for you, maybe you didn’t work hard enough, or maybe you ran into a lot of personal issues during your time at school and that’s what attributed to your low GPA. Regardless of the reason, with 3 classes left towards completing your degree, you are trying to tackle this issue way too late. Why did you wait 3 semesters of coursework to ask yourself whether or not business is for you?

Do you think your performance would be better if you switched to another field of study or is it your study habits that are limiting you? What were the contributing factors to your performance?

To respond to your question on sharing experiences after college, I didn’t have much trouble getting interviews even with an average GPA, but focused on pursuing opportunities that I was truly interested in so that I could perform holistically during my interviews. Explaining a low GPA can be difficult but the more internships, extracurriculars, and any insight into specific course performance that is relative to the desired position can help detract and explain that performance.

@AoDay I actually attended CSUN for three semesters right after high school. I did poorly there and left the school two weeks before finals during the third semester because I felt really discouraged and was having a hard time adjusting to living on my own and not being able to see my family often. I just didn’t take my education seriously. I was also having doubts about my major (fashion design) because I hated the fashion design courses I was taking. My cumulative GPA at CSUN was a 1.28. So, that’s one of the main reason why my cumulative GPA now is really low. After I left CSUN and went back home (San Diego), I took about a year off from college and then went to a local community college, but didn’t do well there academically because I still did not take my education seriously and wasn’t focused in my studies. I was also helping out my parents with their business while attending college back home. In 2013, my mom and I moved to Orange County. I attended Fullerton College that Fall semester and have been doing a lot better academically since then. My cumulative GPA now at Fullerton college is a 3.0, still an average GPA, but a lot better than before.

@AoDay I’ve been attending Fullerton college for five semesters plus two summer sessions. Yeah you’re right, it is kinda late to be tackling this issue. The main reason I am having doubts about pursuing this degree is because I will need to take another 20k in student loans when I transfer to CSUDH. I am not sure if taking out the 20k student loans is worth getting my bachelors degree in business management, if it’s not possible to get a decent paid job in this field. I see many management job postings that requires 3-5 years of experience in the field.
