Is a double minor worth it?

Basically I am planning on majoring in interactive media (which consists half of computer science and half of graphic design type stuff). I want to round this out by minoring in business, but I am also thinking about minoring in film (which includes film theory, screenwriting, and animation which I reallllly want to do).

Would this be too difficult? The total amount of classes not including gen ed and honors stuff is about 32 which would be 8 classes/year already…

Thanks!

Make a four year plan incorporating all of the courses (and include GEs and other graduation requirements). Take into account what prerequisites there are for the courses and that some courses are only offered once per year. See how long it would take you or how heavy your load would be. Run it by an advisor to make sure you didn’t miss anything.

You might find that the workload is ridiculous or that it would take too long and then make the decision of what is most important to you. You can take courses in an area without minoring in it. You can get a lot of good experience and education by working in a certain field, rather than taking a lot of courses in the area.

You might also find that it looks manageable, and then just try it. Keep an eye on drop deadlines so you can drop classes if you find that it’s too much of a workload. You might find out later that you don’t really want to minor in business or film. Maybe you want to do something else. Maybe you just want to take other interesting or useful classes that don’t fit into a particular minor. Maybe you even decide to change your major. Be flexible–keep revising your four year plan so that you have a real, concrete idea of what you need to take when in order to graduate on time.
