Hi all. I’ve been doing a lot of digging and research. I wanted to attend Hopkins for BME, but didn’t make it into the program, while still being accepted to the school. Since I am interested in prosthetics, robotics, and/or neural interfaces and the like, I was thinking about a dual major in EE or CS and Neuroscience, since it also leaves open the chance to become pre-med (I’m thinking about it). I already know it will be quite strenuous and difficult, but I was wondering if anyone has tried something like this in the past and if it is doable within 4 years with a decent GPA at least.

Please don’t attempt this. That combination is probably impossible / extremely difficult to finish in 4 years. There just isn’t enough course overlap.
If you’re interested in prosthesis, brain machine interfaces, etc, a bachelors degree in CS/CE/EE with some supplementary neuroscience courses and a graduate degree in a related field (with research related to your interests) is where you want to go.
Sophomore at JHU doing EE and Neuro and on pace to graduate in 3.5 years (not premed though). In my opinion it’s better than BME instrumentation if you have the chance to do it. I came in with 42 credits from APs and other advanced coursework. Right now I’m taking a lot of the same classes that the BMEs take as Juniors as a Sophomore. Without those credits, I’m not sure if it would be possible for me to be in this position. It’s not impossible, just very difficult. Especially if you want to be premed. If you are serious about premed, I’d say it’s probably a bad idea.
How is the EE training for internships and stuff? My largest concern at JHU is that the EE department is so small. That is a red flag to me because it makes me worry about the resources allocated to the EE kids.
