Is a fifth year of Spanish really that necessary?

Hello everyone, I'm stuck in making a decision, or at least making a presentable case for or against my predicament. Right now is my junior year in hs and I am in Spanish 4. AP Spanish is offered for seniors (and in extreme situations, two of my junior friends). Most of the colleges I'm looking at require 2-4 years of Spanish. Since I took Spanish 1 in eigth grade, those four years will be finished at the end of junior year. I will (most likely) be enrolling in an analytical chemistry course at our local college because I am extremely interested in chemistry, biochemistry, and/or molecular biology. If I don't take AP Spanish, I'll be able to enroll in a sophomore bio course too.

So I was wondering, will having two college sciences instead of one make up for not having AP Spanish during my senior year? I do know it's early, but this website...well if you use CC, you know what it can do to you lol. By the way, the schools I'm looking at are: UW Madison (in-state), Macalester, Carleton, WUSTL, and Yale (my super reach). Thanks guys!

No, it’s not necessary. Take it only if you want to. Choose classes that you are more interested in instead.

5th year DEFINITELY is not necessary. Someone from my school got into Harvard with average ECs last year with only THREE years of spanish. I’m only doing 3 years as well. Thats because I’m taking AP psychology instead. I had this exact same problem except it was about spanish 3. We’ll see what effects it has when I graduate. btw I now have all AP classes

This is what my counselor says: its like any other honors course. As long as you don’t drop it for like Art 1 you should be fine. Just make sure you challenge yourself
