Is a getting a minor really worth it?

I plan on doing BME and was debating as to whether I should do a math minor on the side. However, a friend told me that a minor is won't help unless it is a specific focus of something your major covers (e.g. Biology with a minor in Bioinformatics).

Is it true that a minor that doesn't relate or only tangentially relates to your major is a waste of time?

A math minor would be worth it since math is useful in so many fields, especially the more advanced you go into the field.

The minor itself is completely worthless, like most minors are.

The information you get out of taking more math classes, on the other hand, could be quite useful.
