My bro took the GMATs and got a 710... is that good? He is looking at Northwestern, U of chicago, university of illinois chicago, depaul, and harvard for the heck of it

I am unfamiliar with the test, any input?

Yes its a good score. That score + good work experience + solid undergrad GPA should put him in a nice position when he apples for b-school.

Yeah its good according to colleges "avg GMAT score" - Stern Graduate (which is around 13) has a score of 699..but idk what the GMAT is out of just basing it on school's acceptance stats.

That's damn good.

just for reference- "The average GMAT score for the class entering in fall 2004 was 707" Harvard BS

cool, Ill let him know... I want him to take it again. He studied for all of 2 hours...

The only problem is... he is at Pepperdine. Not the most prestigious of schools. Has a 3.9 GPA... but he has no work expierence, besides a summer job at my dad's flea market buisness...

How do those aspects factor in?

Well, I don't know much about BS, but I do know that work experience is necessary for those applying to TOP schools. Typically, HBS (and other top schools) students work for at least 3-5+ years before applying and getting accepted.
However, I don't know where he's aiming and I don't know how 2nd tier BSs work.

At top Business Schools you need at least 2 yrs of work experience...what yr is he in? If he's a junior, I'd recommend him to go find an internship! There will be people who he'll be competing w/ who have 3-4 yrs of working experience (internships at firms)...so that won't look good on his part. Thats why when I go to college most likely end of frosh yr I'm gonna get an internship to get experience and make connections...they help a lot. If the company likes you they can hire you after you graduate. What is he majoring in? Usually people go to MBA 2 yrs after Undergrad (working for those 2 years).

Actually... he is a senior. He is probably in trouble huh? Serves him right for being a lazy bum...

He'll probalby end up at depaul or something my guess is

yeah 3.93 without much work experience < 3.5-6+ and lots of work experience / EC's when it comes to MBA from what I've been told. I made the mistake in high school, so when I hit college I'm definitely preplanning my next 4 years for my goal rather than worrying about it senior yr.

However, tell him to still apply, because you never know. GL!

if you go to wharton for undergrad, do you really need to do a MBA. A lot of people i know go to wharton and then go straight to law school. Also, if i get an undergrad business education, is there anyway I could get a top notch grad school engineering education(from scratch) somewhere?
