Is a good idea to put the college name in your essay?

I've seen people put what college they are apply to like, ' ____ University is one of the schools I have dreamed about'...or something along those lines, inside their essay

Is it a good idea to put that in ? Of course you won't put something like Duke as your dream school in your Cornell essay...

Anyone know anyone who did this

That kind of pandering nonsense doesn’t belong in any real college essay.

It’s not exactly imperative or inevitable unless one is requested to enlarge upon the intriguing features of a certain university for purposes of a supplemental assignment. As for a main essay, I suppose one could reasonably integrate the college’s name into the work so long as there is a willingness to create multiple files and sensibly correspond the correct essay to the proper application. But I would personally refrain from the approach altogether. However, if one chooses to do so, it’s best not to write anything even remotely close to such standard, conventionalized statements. It almost always registers as a counterfeit sincerity and will provide no tangible admissions boost.

Your main essay should not have the college name in it. Each supp you fill out will ask the ‘why here’ question and that’s the place for your answer.
