Also, is an A- in an AP lit analytical essay considered good?

Yes.

Ask your classmates.

Oh. Darn.
So basically I have a very low chance to the school if I were to apply because of my sucky GPA? That’s really sad.

Most of my classmates get B+'s on their lit essays. But of course there are always those same 2-3 people who get A’s. My teacher never gives out A+'s though.
I was just wondering how it is for other people.

89.61% is 3.0 on the 4.0 scale.

[This scatter plot](Brandeis University Admissions and Acceptance Rate - Waltham, MA | Cappex) shows admitted, waitlisted, and denied students by GPA.

[The Princeton Review](Brandeis University - The Princeton Review College Rankings & Reviews) says the average high school GPA for Brandeis freshmen is 3.8.

Do you know your class rank?
Can you figure out your unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale? (You can’t compute this directly from your GPA on a 100-point scale, because the same GPA on a 100-point scale could result in several different GPAs on a 4.0 scale depending on the letter grades involved.)

I found this [college-board link](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>How to Convert (Calculate) Your GPA to a 4.0 Scale – BigFuture) that has a conversion chart, but it only works if your percentages match up with their letter grades, but you can still use it for reference.

@halcyonheather- No, my school does not do class rank.

Well…i kind of just lost hope…

Thanks anyways guys. :)

Losing hope is the worst thing you could do. Seriously. Yes, be realistic but you can also be optimistic. Think about your other qualities (course rigor, test scores, ECs, recs, etc…). Don’t doubt yourself. My GPA is around yours, yet I’m a finalist for a full ride to a top tier LAC. The world can work in mysterious ways. Good luck to you and I wish you the best.

@TinnyT- thanks you’re one of the encouraging CCers

Also, will being white help at all? (not a jew though…)

I’m white, and I just wanted to know.

It might have helped before the civil rights movement (racism and all that), but now I highly doubt it. There’s a possibility of certain minorities having a slight (like super slight) advantage, but Caucasian is rarely considered a minority. Sorry.

Don’t think that because you aren’t a minority really that decreases your odds though. The chances of you not getting in completely because you’re not a minority are pretty slim.

I don’t think it is low for Brandeis so much as it is just not necessarily competitive for Brandeis - if that makes sense. I don’t think it will rule you out as an applicant but at the same time, it won’t make you stand out either - don’t lose hope! You still have plenty good of a shot of getting in, assuming everything else is decent/good about your application. :)

Yes, 3.0 UW is rather low, and no, being white won’t help you. However, there’s not much you can do at this point. Keep up your spirits, do the best you can, and remember that you can thrive at most colleges.

I think it’s only a 3.0 unweighted if every grade you ever got was a B.

I have a 3.5 UW, I think. I did not get only B’s. haha xD
I had 3 B’s and 2 B+'s (took 23 classes. Note that the 23 classes were from 9-11 grade) I am taking 8 classes this year. One B so far.
Took 6 AP’s and all honors.

I think people are being too harsh. Last time I checked a 89 was roughly 3.5 gpa I mean every college and school has a different way to convert grades, but that’s only one part. Have a great interview, sat score, do something important and I think you will have a chance.

Dude, we’re on the same boat.
I can’t tell you anything…cause I am really not sure myself.

But all i can say is to stay strong man.
we can fail together. hahahahaha jk. :)
