Is a Masters in Information Technology a good idea/

I will have a BBA in Accounting next may graduating magna cum laude from a regional school in the UT system. I majored in this subject because from my youngest days I’ve been really intrigued with financial markets and macroeconomics in general. I found Accounting to be the subject which would provide me with the best in-depth understanding of the real nitty-gritty aspects of the business world . I initially majored in Economics but I found that too theoretical. I switched to Finance but I learn that job-wise an Accounting degree can do about everything the Finance degree can do and more.

But now with the knowledge I have gotten/would have gotten, I now want to change course so to speak and go into the tech field and I think a masters in IT would provide me with the best opportunity to do this. I am computer-savvy and have learnt somewhat the basics of coding.

I would say my reasons for preferring the Masters in IT to say a Masters in Accounting are

  1. subject is more interesting to me

  2. outlook is better than accounting long-term. The reason I say this is that the US is probably going to move to IFRS sometime in the near future. That seems a reasonable assumption to make and with that happening, there’d naturally a lot more competition for accounting positions in the US and would render a lot of the information I would recently had learnt in Masters in Accounting degree somewhat obsolete(correct me if I’m wrong)

Schools that I am looking at are Syracuse and Virginia Tech.

Any advice/recommendations on this would be appreciated.
