I hope that answers that.

Regular pencils are easier for MC...but I can definitely see why you would prefer mech pencil for the essay. I used one - proctor asked me if it was a pen, I said no, and she let me be. Rules are against mech pencils probably because of the possibility of hiding papers in the lead compartment to cheat...but I doubt any proctor would kick you out for using one. At most, they would probably tell you to switch...if anything.

And in terms of lead, it will work. People have used up to 6B pencils and had it scored correctly...so im pretty sure your lead is #2 (I can never find mech pencil lead that isnt).

For the record, people I know have used a mechanical pencil on the multiple choice and done fine, (shifty) but I'd just use... (ewww) regular pencils.

Actually, I've heard that some proctors confiscate mechanical pencils.

Bring no 2 pencils just in case.

I used a mechanical pencil on the PSAT.

Usually proctors are just fine with that (especially if they're just a teacher getting paid a little extra to be a proctor), but I would second sainclaire and say bring regular pencils in case.

i prefer the mechanical pencil on the SAT essay. Only I left my stuff in the car when i got down at the test centre!!

They don't want you using mechanical pencils because they are more likely to rip through the paper.

I have also heard that people have used mechanical pencils to cheat (not exactly sure how; Maybe they stuck something inside of it?)

In any case, I know that CollegeBoard doesn't want people using them...

You can't use mechanical pencils because the lead could easily break off and roll around inside your test booklet and mark it up.
