Also, unweighted GPA out of 4.0 is preferred.

@coolweather What’s so bad about parents helping? You know patents can be written by a patent attorney right? Except the parent can do it for free. As long as the child had something to do with the idea itself.
Same with Intel Science Fairs. People think that the competitors are some kind of geniuses, but they are not. What people don’t know is that they are coached by a scientist who selects an experiment and guides them through the process. The judges of Intel know this.
I think if people can get in to colleges just because their parents are rich, then kids can take help from their parents, as long as they are learning.

And I don’t know why it’s so bad to try to get into a good college. You can do what you like and you can try and increase your chances for college. I mean does anyone take the SAT for fun?
People are motivated to get into college because they want to learn more and have a better future. I think those are great goals.
What we should really prevent are just those robots who do everything only to get in. But those are few and relatively rare. But telling everyone to only do what they love and not care about colleges is simply impossible. Otherwise they would not be on CC.
