As of now, I'm a 17 year old junior with grades too mediocre for the schools I want to go to. I currently have an UW GPA around 3.5 and a W GPA around 3.8. If everything works out, I would graduate with a 3.9W. I realize I could have actually applied myself and wouldn't be in this situation. I scored in the 93% on my PSAT and have yet to take the SAT but am estimating my score to be 2000ish. I'm the assistant editor of my school newspaper and have qualified, and will probably place at the Oklahoma state publications competition. I also changed schools in the middle of high school, having to change states. I didn't take any SATs this year because none are offered for juniors.

I've always been interested in boarding schools (I looked into Milton and Andover, mostly) and planned to apply but ended up changing my mind. I since regret my decision because of the sad little school I'm now attending. I'm thinking about applying to PG as well as my reach/goal colleges next year (Stanford, Tulane, Texas, Chicago, Northwestern).

With my stats, where do you think I would be accepted? Are PG admissions more competitive than in other years? Is there usually financial aid for PG or is it usually just restricted for 9-12? What ramifications could taking a PG year have on my college admissions? What types of classes do PG students usually take?

Also, any experience/stories about this type of thing would be nice. I know my grades aren't horrible and I would definantly be accepted somewhere, even if it wasn't my 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice. I've been told to just go somewhere, do well, and transfer but I'm really not willing to do that. I want the full 4 year college experience, even if it means delaying it by a year.

i m sorry but i dont think 93%on PSAt would be enough for milton and andover..remember, it's WAY easier to get a high % on the PSAT than SSAT coz almost every junior takes it. Most kids at my school have 98%+ PSAT

Milton does not take PGs (none of the ISL schools do)
Most of the PGs I know are recruited athletes to schools like Andover and Exeter and if you are recruited, then your grades and your PSAT will be fine to get you into Andover/Exeter/Deerfield

I think you have a good chance of acceptance at Tulane (you're in) and UTexas (I realize it is tough, but you are in the ballpark), in which case the PG year would not be necessary.
That said, check out Blair- not all PGs are athletes and you would have an awesome experience and be positioned well for the next college application process.

i take that u r from oklahoma, UTEXAS is tough for OOS, very tough becoz of the vast majority being in-state. So it will be a high match/slight reach. Tulane i think is a good match/high safety type. The others are high reach. I am sorry. But that GPA and SATs are pretty lacking from those schools. If you want a realistic shot, stay at oklahoma and your geographical diversity might help you. Plus, a 2000ish SATs and your GPA is not going to help you stand out in a crowd of overacheivers, wealthys and legacies in a BS..

Do you think your teachers will give you good recs??? try to kiss up as much as you can and join a club or something that shows your character. do A LOT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE. Do you have any strengths??? Special talent??? I suggest studying really hard and taking the SATs again. see wat you get and then decide if you want to apply to a BS...haha i luv tat BS...man tat is total bs. HAHA (I can make myself laugh a lot) lols

I actually really wish I could. There are a lot of sports that seem to be offered mainly in the northeast that I would have loved to play and probably would have been pretty good at. I really wish I could have played field hockey, especially.

To the Tulane post, Tulane is very good...I wouldn't say she is def. in, not to ruin spirits, because it is very tough. I am sure you have great chance, though.

*Just wanted to point out that Tulane is not automatic accpetance...

i m not so sure about that. From the college admit profile the school gave us, tulane accepted everyone down to a C average. Accepted 1 out of 2 with a C- average. Accetped 1 out of 3 with no average (D or under)
