Is a short interview bad?

I just had an interview with a Columbia student today, and it lasted just short of 30 minutes. I read on the email she sent that they should last about 30-45 minutes long, so I was slightly worried about that. I felt like there was tons to talk about in our interview, and that she was really invested in the conversation and didn’t seem distracted at all. Overall, I felt that the interview went really well other than the duration of it, but I don’t know if that means anything bad.

Did you ask questions?

Not necessarily…if you feel it was a good interview, then most probably it was? Did you show interest? Ask questions? Discuss interests? Did the interviewer give you more insight into aspects of the school? If you don’t feel like you made a major mess up, then most likely you didn’t.

Also remember, interviewers won’t usually write bad things about you. When I was interviewed by a Cornell alum, he said he writes only good things and the interview just gives him more insight into the applicant; they don’t purposely try to demolish your application. That being said, if you didn’t show interest, were rude, acted impolite and weren’t dressed for the occasion, that may make it harder for them to stick to their gameplan.

Don’t worry. My DD has had many and they’ve all been thirty minutes.

Had a 20 minute interview, still got in. The interviews really don’t matter; as long as you gave halfway thoughtful answers and didn’t say anything along the lines of “I really don’t want to go here, my parents made me apply” then you’ll be fine.

@XCjunior2016 Yeah, I did. I asked her about her personal experience at Columbia (what she liked and didn’t like, if she went to any of the shows or exhibitions with their student passes, etc.)
