Hi guys I'm a junior and I've played girls lacrosse since 7th grade. I'm taking 3 AP classes this year and I'm worried that handling a sport right near exam time will be too much for me and will lower my scores. I'm an above average student with A+s, but not anything extremely special. Does doing a sport help at all with college apps? Btw I would be in my first year of varsity this year.

Three AP classes isn’t an exorbitant number of tests and I think it should be possible to do both, depending on what the subjects are.

A sport will help as much as any other EC, but if you think that it would negatively impact your grades, you should focus on them. Sports will help supplement a strong application, but they can’t make up for low grades or test scores.

Agree, your school work has to come first. If it is your only EC or by far your strongest one, though, then you should figure out if you can juggle both.

I feel like if you planned your time out and used it wisely, you should be able to do both at the same time. If you can’t, then you should definitely focus on your school work.

It can help. As long as you are involved in activities you TRULY enjoy, everything is great.

Show some love toward your activities because they pretty much “define” you, so to speak, throughout the college app process.

(BTW, by that, I mean it allows colleges to see what type of person you are out of the classroom.)

Not sure if I am making any sense… Lol.

Thanks for the feedback! I’m a bit apprehensive about playing this year because I will be playing clarinet for a musical during the lacrosse season, and both activities require a lot of time… Hopefully I can do both! Thanks again :)

I haven’t played a sport for all 4 years of high school. :)

It may, for college admissions, they care about you being well rounded. If that means playing a sport, play a sport. If it means doing something else, do something else.

On a side note, i miss HS
