Is a UC a good fit?

UCSB/UC Irvine/UCLA are my dream schools

Do i really have a chance at these schools????

UC admitted freshman profiles

http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/profiles/

Go to the school you are considering, then look for the pdf link for more details. If that is your UC GPA you must have done ver well with a lot of approved honors and AP classes.

This one for UCLA has even more detail.

I dont really know much about that, I took that gpa from my schools grading system. The only B’s i gotten were from freshmen year.

I really want multiple opinions. Thaaaaaaaank you!

UC/CSU GPA is capped at 4.33 (weighted with 8 semesters of AP/Honors only in 10th/11th grade) so your UC/CSU GPA of 4.61 is fully weighted which includes all your Honors/AP classes taken??? Lucky for you, the UC’s really like high GPA’s.

Your ACT/SAT are below what is considered competitive for UCI/UCSB/UCLA.
For UCI/UCSB, you want to AIM for at least an SAT of 1900+/ACT 28+ and UCLA SAT of 2100+/ACT 30+ to be
really competitive. Depending upon your major, the ACT of 26 would be ok for probably UCI, but I would definitely retake.

It would be helpful for you to post your intended major since your chances will many times depend the competitiveness of that major.
Your EC’s are decent and first generation will help. Write good essays since they can be the additional boost your might need.
Good Luck

I am Social Science major! I’m thinking of applying either as a English or Sociology major. I’m definitely shooting ffor AT LEAST 1900 on the SAT, and hoping to improve my ACT since I’ve only taken it once… I’m planning to eventually become a teacher

If it helps, Im taking 10 semesters worth of AP classes this year

Admissions will look favorably at the rigor of your Senior year, just keep up the grades since you need to maintain a 3.0 GPA and D’s or F’s to keep your provisional admission, but they will not see your grades until you send in the final transcript at the end of the year. If you can get the SAT/ACT up, you should be a good match UCI/UCSB. UCLA is always tough. Good Luck

You don’t have to take 10 semesters AP if you cannot handle really well. The UC is really serious about rescinding your admittance if your GPA drops low or you fail one of the classes.

Try some CSU schools since they have some great teacher ed programs.

“I dont really know much about that”

Maybe you do !

I just noticed you listed your gpa as 4.38 on UC/CSU scale. With a UC GPA of 4.38 chances are way better than an unweighted 3.8 or SAT 's of 1500.

Oops! It says 4.6 UC/CSU. It’s usually capped around 4.4. That generally means a bunch of straight A’s, including approved honors and AP’s in A-G’s. Knowing what all that is a pretty big deal, but not as hard as getting in and out of a UC.

Best wishes!
