Is a uc really better than a csu?

Hello, I am currently enrolled at UC-Riverside, economics major. I have recently realized that the major here is based as a social science, so it does not have any finance applications. I want to go into Investment banking after my undergrad. I also have found that CSULA has an applied economics program which has finance in the curriculum. So it seems that the program at CSULA would better prepare me for my career. I really do not want to go to graduate school after graduation. But does it really matter that one is a UC and one is a CSU? does the prestige or lack thereof of the school really matter on getting a job even if you have done internships? Also CSULA is much cheaper about $6,300 for tuition and fees as a commuter and at UCR it is about $14,000 tuition and fees plus I have to pay about $6,000 for my apartment for the school year. I have already applied to CSULA and it is the only school I applied to.

Look mate, I’m not going to tell which is better and which isn’t because better is entirely subjective. You can’t climb the ladder of success with hands in your pocket. Prestige or even lack of shouldn’t hold you back. If you feel that CSULA would serve you well in the run then go for it. I would too if I were in your shoes. But if you decide to stay in UCR then kudos to you. I know really smart folk who went to CSULA and their science degrees and they’re doing just fine. I know UCR graduates who are doing just fine.

If you plan on applying to some sort of graduate school, it would probably help you more if you applied to UCR, because the fact remains that Riverisde is part of the UC system, which is a prestigious system nationwide. Graduate schools that take this into consideration might give you an edge over others, who lets say are part of the Cal-State system. Then again, this is a “rumor” that I heard from others, so just take it with a grain of salt.
