Is a weighted 3.5 GPA decent as a senior? What would my unweighted be then?

So I went on Naviance today and saw that my weighted GPA was a 3.5. I’m currently a senior now, and I just want to know if my weighted GPA is considered decent or not. My unweighted GPA is an 87 (which I believe would be a 3.2 then) However I’m not sure.

Your unweighted GPA would be (87/100)*4=3.48 out of 4. However, keep in mind that most colleges will recalculate your GPA based solely on academic courses (i.e. no PE or Health.)

That is definitely a good GPA, but obviously depends on the schools you’re interested in/applying to.

IMO, apply if your GPA/test scores (if you have them,) are within the 50% range (or look at the admitted students on Naviance, although it doesn’t count students w/legacy, recruited athletes etc.

Hope that helps! Good luck with admissions!

I never took any honors classes except one for sophomore and junior year. Is my gpa still okay?

Ok is totally relative. Your GPA will be competitive at many, many schools.

I never took any honors or ap classes tho except spanish for sophomore and junior year. i’m taking two ap classes and two honors now as a senior. is this ok still?

There is no way to answer “is this ok” without context. What schools are you applying to? How many AP and honors courses are offered at your school?

I’m thinking about applying to Monctlair University or William Paterson. There are a lot of ap and honors offered but I never was enrolled until senior year because my freshman year grades were bad.

To calculate a basic unweighted GPA, add up the following for each grade in an academic course:

A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0

Divide by the number of grades.

I think you will be fine for the schools you are targeting!

My daughter had multiple friends in high school who were very strong and very competitive students. One good friend went to Chicago. Another to WUSTL.

Another friend had high school stats similar to yours. She never took any AP class, and I do not think that she ever took an honors class. She went to a good university (not “top 50”, probably not “top 100”) with a strong program in her major. She selected a pragmatic major that led to a good job. She is now one of the most successful of my daughter’s friends and is doing very well with a job she likes and a good income.

Having good grades (as you do) and realistic goals and selecting an employable major is generally more important in life than having top grades and attending a big name school.

I think that you are doing well.
