Is ABET-accreditation important for Computer Science?

I am applying to colleges and found out about ABET-accreditation. Apparently, UT Austin doesn’t have an ABET-accredited Computer Science program, and I was wondering if that’ll be a problem in the future.

Strictly speaking, it is not really important except in special situations, like if you want to take the patent exam.

It does specify a minimum standard of quality, although there are many non-ABET-accredited CS majors that are good. But less well known non-ABET-accredited CS majors may need to be checked more carefully to see if they have the usual expected CS offerings.

Actually I can’t imagine why you would need ABET accreditation for CS.

Specifically, in this case, UT Austin is a top CS school and the lack of ABET accreditation means nothing unless you have a specific case of needing it, which is incredibly rare. Many top CS programs go in this same category.
