is accountant a good major?

i've read countless times that becoming an accountant can be extremely hard and boring.
i've also read that if an individual do extremely well in all of the classes require for an accountant degree, he/she may find a job easily and possibly make a fortunate.

i am currently an accountant major and i have yet to take an accounting class.
Throughout my freshman year, i took all core classes. now i am register in two business-related class (principle of accounting 1 and business of law). my 4-year college happens to offer a A.A.S associate degree for applied science which i am currently aiming for. i plan to graduate with that degree instead of a bachelor degree for accounting because i want to be able to finish the next two year of accounting in a different college (transfer after getting associate)

will the college i hope to transfer to accept all the credits from my associate degree?
would it look good to complete my associate degree for accounting and then a bachelor and hopefully a master or an MBA?

is this a good degree? help!!!

I am also an accounting major and pick this field for a number of reasons after a LOT of research.

Job Security
Accountants are always needed. Bear markets, bull markets, farmers’ markets, there will always be transactions and there will always be someone keeping track of them.

Versitility
Accountancy is viewed as one of the more difficult business majors (the other being economics) and requires knowledge of other areas such as finance, marketing and management. An accountant can adapt more easily into one of those fields than they can adapt to accounting. Accounting can also set you up nice for law.

Salary
My father is a partner at a large (top 15 nationally), regional firm and makes roughly $700,000 a year. Entry level accountants will average $50-70k per year and will be in the 6 digit range after a few decent promotions.

My plan is to specialize in tax as my father did, then perhaps move into tax law. From what I understand, your first few years working for a firm as a CPA demands a good amount of patience. I remember times durring tax season before my father made partner where he would spend the night at the office. I think the worst was two nights in a row.

not really the answer i was looking for but thanks…

will the college i hope to transfer to accept all the credits from my associate degree?

Probably not. A.A.S. are typically vocational degrees. You will have to check with the University you plan on transferring to.

would it look good to complete my associate degree for accounting and then a bachelor and hopefully a master or an MBA?

It probably will not matter. An associates degree is generally not highly regarded. The only way I can see it as valuable is if you can parlay it into meaningful work experience (which is very unlikely).

is this a good degree? help!!!

It’s might help you getting a job but overall is not great for qualifying you for transfer, MBA, etc…

thanks for the response tdcarpenter. what business degree should i be aiming for so i can get into business school & obtain my MBA and make good money?

should i NOT take business classes now? (freshman second semester)

I highly recommend some remedial writing classes as a start. I know that may sound offensive to you, but without basic writing skills you’re not even going to get a job as a clerk.
