I want to take the ACT for the first time at the end of my sophomore year/beginning of my junior year. However, I'll only have taken Adv. Alg. 2. Do I need to know pre calc to succeed on the ACT Math section (33+)?

How much trig do you know?

I know basic trig that they teach you in Geometry - SOHCAHTOA, as in sin=opp./hyp., cosin=adj./hyp., and tan=opp./adj. But that’s pretty much all I remember. =P

If you want a 36 on Math you’ll at least need to know law of sines/law of cosines, and trig identities don’t hurt either

Oh, we learned the law of sines/law of cosines. I’d have to review, but I know it. But I’m not sure what a trig identity is…

Btw, I’m not banking on a 36. I’m happy with a 33 on Math and Science and hopefully 35’s on R/W; my goal is a comp. 34.

You don’t absolutely need trig identities. It might help with the occasional queerball question, but I never got one of those. Law of Sines/Cosines on the other hand, you should know.

If you want to make sure you’ve got trig down, derive the Law of Sines or Cosines by yourself. If you can, then you’re good with trig for the ACT.

e: other than that, you’ll be more or less fine. Maybe check out how conic sections are graphed; that’s it.

Okay then. Yay. =) I’ll plan on taking the ACT w/writing in April or sooner, provided I score well on my PLAN.

I got a 32 after having just plain ol’ Algebra II. Don’t worry.
