Thank!
-A

P.S. About the Who's Who Among America's High School Students, I got the thing in the mail saying that I'd been recognized or nominated something like that, is only filling it out and sending it to them all it takes?
Also, is anyone familiar to the Venture Scholar Program? Does it really help at all?

Now recently ubetteraccept_me posted his stats...

What do you think my chances are?
I'm a white, catholic male; junior; from Georgia:

SAT IIs- None yet, but I'm taking math (predicting a 750 or so), Chemistry, Biology, and spanish.
Class Rank- My school doesn't give them, but I'm pretty sure top 15%
After graduation, I will have taken 10 APs (Calculs BC, Statistics, Chemistry, Physics, US History, Human Geography, English Language, English Literature, Spanish, Spanish Literature) and 8 honors classes (English I, English II, Geometry, Algebra I, Algebra II, Precalculus, Biology, Chemistry).

I went on a Walkabout (my schools outdoor club) trip to India (trekking) and on one to Costa Rica (kayaking)

Applying to (sort-of in order):
Harvard/Georgetown
Columbia
Northwestern
George Washington/American
Tufts/Boston University
Syracuse
U Georgia (backup)

I attend a fairly prestigious school, Baylor School. It's very prestigious in the south. It's also relativley competitive.

What do y'all honestly think my chances are. I really want to go to Georgetown.

The responses we got WERE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT...most everyone said I had a VERY GOOD CHANCE...and most said that ubetteraccept_me had little or no chance even though he's much more qualified than I am.....does that make sense to anyone??

Your scores are A LOT better than his. You also have taken several SATIIs and did very well on them. Your extracurriculars look similar to his...he has a laundry list but you're team captain of something while he's vice president. i wouldn't say one of your extracurriculars stick out over the other. I don't know the 100 pt scale, so I can't easily compare GPAs. What do you mean he's much more qualified???

I would submit the Spanish. It doesn't matter how you got the knowledge, just that you got it.

What schools are of interest to you?

Here is my list so far: (I'm interested in BioMedical Engineering btw):

-Stony Brook SUNY
-Binhamgton SUNY
-WPI
-RPI
-Boston U
-Tufts U
-Cornell
-Harvard
-MIT
-Yale (?)
^^ that's my list so far, I think they're in order of acceptance difficulty

The top 5 you should have no problem with. Great chance at Tufts. Good chance at Cornell. Do you know what your class rank is? I'm not sure how good your GPA is, my school does a 4.0 scale. You definately have a shot at Harvard, MIT, and Yale but those schools are hard to predict.

my rank will probably be 60/700

I don't think he sounds any more qualified than you, personally. I'm probably agree with the assessments other people have given you.

Hispanic Male.....I got into MIT, Northwestern, and CMU with SAT I scores nowhere near yours...... Harvard is a reach for everyone....but you have a great chance anywhere else.

are you going for engineering by any chance? hispanic female with your scores for engineering makes you a very desirable candidate

woohoo! that makes me VERY happy :) lol yeah, I'm planning on Biomedical Engineering, and depending on how that goes, maybe go to medical school after.

Oh wow! good rank AND engineering!! You're chances are really quite good, even at the reaches (Harvard, Yale, MIT)

I feel special.. :)

Wow, I'm in a thread--how interesting! Anyways, yeah I agree with Chocolateluvr, you are more qualified than I am. Our GPAs are about the same, but your test scores are much higher (I wish I had those scores :-) ). With ECs, I have got more and all, but you had a more difficult family situation; I'm assuming you had to do all that waitressing to support your family (?). Anyways, I think you have a great shot!
