Is age a factor in getting an internship?

I'm 29 years old going back to school for a 2nd degree in Computer Science. After spending the last 1.5 years at community college I'm finally transferring to my local state university this fall.

I would like to get an internship asap but being 29 years old and probably 9-10 years older than the other applicants. I need to know. Realistically, how much of a chance do I have at getting an internship over the next guy?

Your age will (mostly) only be an issue if the employer gets the feeling that you won’t be able to take orders from someone who is younger than you.

Fitting into company culture is always very important.

there was just an article about older interns…

[FEATURE-Older interns signal gloomy U.S. labor market | Reuters](http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/06/30/usa-economy-interns-idUSN1E75S1R420110630)

I’m 34 in a CompE major. I’m currently competing for an internship and I asked my interviewer about my age being a problem.

She told me it would only be a problem if my work history was poor. I was told having a strong work history, which includes the military, would only help me.

Many companies use internships to find future hires so I can’t believe it will hurt.
