Is age a factor in US college admissions?

Does it matter to admissions whether you're 15 or 25 years old when you apply???

I doubt adcoms have preferences but I’m sure they view younger/older applicants with different lenses.

It depends on the college. Some are especially welcoming to older students; some don’t care at all. Sometimes you might have to explain what you were doing in the gap from high school graduation to the present date (if you’re older) or explain why you think you’re qualified to handle college coursework (if you’re, like, 12). It usually doesn’t have to be anything too complex; they just might want to know that you weren’t overseas working as a drug lord or an international terrorist (those ECs are too common and aren’t good “hooks”).

Well yeah it does matter, but not so much the number. What matters is how mature a person is, and it is not unreasonable to assume that a older person will be more mature (and have more life experience) than a younger person, but it I dont think its an advantage in itself. It might tip the scale if it is a matter of choosing between two students tho…
