Is Age a Factor when transfering?

Hi, I have been in community college for four years and was wondering if that looks bad upon transfering to UCLA?

Somebody please help with this question. I don't know who else to ask..

What i am trying to ask is. Does is look bad if a student was in community college for four years?

If you were being lazy and taking 12 credits a semester to take your time, then yes--I think so. If you were forced to work a full time job/medical/family problems and explain such case in your essay, it shouldn't hurt you at all.

Since it's a state school, I really don't think it matters that much. If you've fulfilled the program requirements and done well, you should have an ok shot. Still, if it took you 4 years to do what it takes most people 2 years to do, that will be a red flag.

skinnyfists is exactly right. If you've got good reasons for your prolonged stay or have completed a ton of units, it shouldn't matter.

Actually, going part-time/full-time is not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you changed focus (with repect to a major) or found a new passion.

You might want to also look at programs for adult students as well, to broaden your search. Syracuse, Columbia, JHU, Northwestern, Loyola Chicago, Wash U, URichmond, Tulane, BU, BC, NYU, UVA, etc...have great options.

Also look at schools like IU-Bloomington, UMaryland, UMiami, UTexas, UOregon, Ohio State, Washington State, American, etc...which don't require HS transcripts or test scores. UCLA does not if you have so many credits. You just need to have taken the core classes.

I was heavily working at a certain point and I wrote in my essay that it was strictly for learning. I wrote that i was working hard to learn from professionals. Does that help?

yes u should be ok

If you were taking classes to gain knowledge, then it does help, especially if you address the issue in your essays. It shows a love of learning...

What do you think you want to major in after you transfer?

I applied as a Digital Media/ Design Major and i still have to send in a portfolio I feel pretty confident in my portfolio, but feel little stuff like this will hold me back. I want to post a paragraph of my essay where i wrote this and i would like to know what everyone thinks. Thanks in advance.

People have asked why I have never enrolled in a physical art class and that is because I have always been told that the desired knowledge is best obtained through employment in the industry, and found that to be true within the first couple of days of employment. The thought of money never crossed my mind. The only way I was able to cope with the intensive labor was to think I was working in exchange for the training. In the last couple of years my activity in school has declined due to my overpowering ambition to learn from working experts. I feel that I have learned everything I was able to learn, and feel it is time to move on. There are certain skills that cannot be learned because of the lack of opportunities, and that is where school must come to play.
Although, depression has ruined my first year of junior college, I do not regret being possessed with this disorder, because it has made me generally a more open-minded person. I also feel I am able to identify detail at a finer level when working with all aspects of art.

Please be honest

Does anybody have any input?

looks good to me. :)
