schools applying to:
hotchkiss
exeter
andover
lawrenceville
peddie

i'm actually considering not applying at all anymore, or at least that's what my parents are telling me. are they right?

my stats:

athletics
-i played 8th grade varsity softball for my school an plan to play again this year
-i have been playing volleybll for 3 years- i played for my shool last year and did an out of school league this fall

arts
-i recently started jazz and lyrical dance classes (a switch from cheerleading which i had been doing for 3 years)
-i love to draw. i've been doing it since the fifth grade. i don't have a portfolio or anything just a huge collection of drawings and school teachers that really like me.

i play no instruments

i am african-american and very in-touch with my Nigerian heritage (if tht makes a difference)

also, my mom's cousin had 2 children who went to andover and one currenly in exeter.

St. Paul's told me to still apply with my SSAT score. (50 R, 50 V, 31 M, 40 Overall) They said it was one of the least important parts of the application.

Don't give up. Just apply. I think you will regret it if you don't at least try.

Why don't you apply to some safety schools? You'd probably get into The Gunnery because their average SSAT score is 50% and the acceptance rate is 50%.

You're near St. Paul's range for SSAT scores. The average is an 88%.

i think only peddie's really realistic..others are crap shot...but everyone has a chance why not..but bear in mind the chance is unrealistic to be hopeful about

"You're near St. Paul's range for SSAT scores. The average is an 88%."
Johnathan are u sure? becoz hotchkiss' SSAT average was 92% last year and I imagine SPS to be at least equal or maybe higher...that number might be old

"but for hotchkiss, lawrenceville and peddie~ i think u have a good chance."
Good chance? you kidding? that's not true even for peddie... hotchkiss and lawrenceville? u kidding me right? i dont think anyone can call hotchkiss or maybe even lawrenceville a 'good chance" unless he has perfect stats with sweet hooks...however, it's not hopeless if you are an interesting applicant..and to call any school a good chance school, a rule of thumb is when one's SSAT and GPA should be somewhat at the ballpark of the average SSAT and GPA, again, unless u have a sweet hook

You have the opportunity to do very well on the Hotchkiss application. On the form "Formal Application", they ask you several questions that allow you to be very creative with your short-answer responses and essays. I felt that Hotchkiss really wants to get to know the applicant better. I would assume that if you did exceptionally well on this section (which is composed mainly of essays and short answer questions), which is the main section of the application, you would increase your chances at the school substantially. :)

Since you seem to be very strong in the arts, I would advise that you center your applications around that theme. Through your application, it should be very easy to recognize where your interests lie.

hint hint, mention something about the new headmaster, Mr Mackenzie who's joining next year all the way from south africa, and hotchkiss has been trying to go along the line with globalism and international awareness, write something about that would boost your chance

wow i'm getting alot of mixed answers here. can any of you back them up w/t expirience? what are some of the lowest ssat scores you've heard of people being admitted with?
