Is All Lost in Seattle? Race and Perceptions

The other thread had gotten off-topic, so I started this one.

It appears that Seattle has completed its transformation into a major American metropolis. It now has a compliment of the problems confronting other urban centers, particularly public education.

The Seattle Public Schools seem to be at the mercy of the wind and rudderless. The case accepted for argument by the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday is the latest problem. No need to rehash here the tortured history of a once fine school system. But clearly the district has been in freefall for over 25 years since enrollment began to dramatically decline. Cities which have many, many fewer residents have far larger pubic school enrollment; Columbus OH comes to mind. And now the district continues it's clumsy efforts regarding race and placement. All this in a region that I believe remains over 80% white.
