So I was wondering. Is American University a good school for poli sci and economics? And how does it match up to George Washington, Penn State, Temple, and Swarthmore.

Furthermore, which of the above list (including American) would you attend if you were accepted?

it’s a great school for poly sci, especially location-wise. idk about temple and penn state, but gw is i think slightly better, and swarthmore has better academics though american’s location is slightly better.

i’m looking into a poly sci major, and swarthmore’s my #1, but american is definitely pretty high up on my list.

American’s a great school, but it doesn’t compare academically to Swarthmore. The location, however, is something to consider, though it’s possible to intern in DC during summers if you attend Swarthmore.

Swarthmore is by far the best academically, but it’s also a lot smaller than the other schools you mentioned. George Washington is very similar to American but better academically. Temple is kind of ehhh ( ), and PSU is very expensive OOS.

I went to grad school at GW, and considered both GW and American. I think both schools are good, especially for political science, as you have lots of opportunities for internships, etc.

Apply to them all and then compare fin. aid. That might make the decision easy for you in the end.

American U. puts more emphasis on merit aid than many other colleges. Penn State provides relatively little in financial aid grants, except a minimum of $3.5K a year in merit aid if you get accepted into Honors.

Swarthmore is extremely rich, and meets 100% of need and is need blind.
