I’m looking at the application status of the schools I’ve applied to today and I’m sort of confused about Haverford now. Their application checklist is almost complete save for my SAT scores which I just sent the other day and a teacher rec that I requested a few weeks ago. Originally I thought the interview was required (or, recommended before one applies) and their website said to schedule over the phone but the interview doesn’t seem to be part of the checklist. I couldn’t really schedule an interview before I applied because things came up that required me to stay in this general area until recently. Should I still schedule one? Haverford isn’t that far from where I live so it wouldn’t be a huge inconvenience for me.
I would do the following:
- Email or call admissions to ask if it is required/recommended if you are unclear from reading the website.
- Before you call, google the common data form for the school to see if demonstrated interest is a factor. If so, then an interview might be worthwhile regardless of it is required. Often an alumni interview can be set up close to your home if you decide you don’t want to go back to campus (although if you live close an on-campus interview is probably the better alternative)…
Definitely interview, it shows more demonstrated interest. I did one, it was pretty nice. I had a senior from the college do mine and it was more like a conversation
They don’t require it, but they recommend it highly if you live in the area. It can really only help you unless you totally turn them off for some reason!
