I'm stuck trying to make a decision and would like some input.

i am

Lilyxlove what is your intended major.

bump

@timwantscollege

hey. ideally i would want to be in business. i was very dissapointed to be paced when i was in the top 7.8% of my class. i saw pace as an opportunity to take cheaper and easier classes and have a much higher gpa. obviously i’m still not ecstatic about this situation, but i am happy to be going to UT where I can now figure out what i really do want to this year. i know many people who change majors so maybe doing pace is better for me so that i can explore and it will not affect my gpa and stuff

i just have no idea what to do about pace. because i know that we have to take an acc orientation while we are at UT orientation so i am a little confused about everything and will have to talk to a UT counselor

The main thing to keep in mind is that your first employer out of college will neither know nor care whether you got in to UT through PACE or not.

Do you have a better offer than guaranteed admission to UT next year? Look at it in cold, logical terms. Ignore the emotions you feel about being offered something “less-than” and evaluate the offer based on its own merits. I’m willing to bet PACE is a better offer than most universities in Texas can give you.

For example, I never even applied to Texas Tech or A&M or a few others because I figured in the worst case scenario (which ended up happening of course) I would get offered PACE, and I would still pick that over the other schools.

If you’re going to do pace, make sure you figure out what chances you have to get into the program that you want. Remember, pace only guarantees liberal arts and undergraduate studies.

@lilyxlove I also want to do business and was disappointed about the outcome. My main worry is having to transfer into the business school. With my other options, A&M and Indiana University, I already have a guaranteed spot in the business school. UT has been my number one school and I’m glad I have the opportunity to spend my freshman year on the forty acres unlike CAP. Im still on the fence though. Its sooooo stressful.

@EtiquetteOfWar I know what you mean. My question though is how much more opportunity is there at UT vs A&M’s Mays which is ranked pretty well.

@Timwantscollege

McCombs is far, far superior to Mays. I have friends at both schools, and the recruiting (finance, tech, etc…) at McCombs blows Mays out of the water.

PACE doesn’t guarantee entrance into the business program though, so there’s some risk accepting it with the intention of transferring into McCombs.

@timwantscollege i was in the same situation as you. i was accepted into may’s business school at tamu and i was invited to meet the dean, but because UT has been my dream school since forever, I chose PACE.

I know we are not guaranteed a spot at McCombs, I think if we have a really good GPA freshman year that we will be transferred in. I know people in CAP who got into Mccombs.

@lilyxlove That’s what I was thinking. It shouldn’t be to hard to get a 4.0 at ACC right? We would be internal transfers which had a 72% acceptance rate last year so that is encouraging but I’m just worried that if I don’t get in I will have waisted a year of my time and money. It definatly is a risk but I think it might be worth it.

@timwantscollege well pace tuition will be signifcantly cheaper… and if we don’t get into mccombs then i guess it’s time for mays! haha but really ya it should be easier to get a 4.0

I’m doing PACE and hopefully transferring into McCombs later :)

I think a lot of the PACE students were McCombs applicants who would have gotten in under another major. I’m hoping that this risk will be worth it in the end. I doubt many people will get of the waitlist beacuse I know like 30 people just from my school that got PACE and a lot of then a applyied to McCombs

I just found out news that makes me reconsider PACE. After the one year of PACE you can’t transfer as an internal transfer until the end of your sophomore year. If you want to transfer after freshman year it has to be an external transfer.

@Timwantscollege you are completely right in regards to the external transfer thing. honestly…i don’t see anything positive about pace. ya u get to go to UT after a year but you don’t even know if you will be able to go the major you want… why go to a college when you aren’t even going to be able to attend the major you want to begin with… at the end of the day … its just a risk… something that i don’t think is worth it whatsoever. Also if you are a kid with so many ap credits already(i’ll have 14 by the end of this year)… none of them can be used to shorten your 1 year at acc. once again. for all pace candidates i would strongly consider your other options…

i’m only planning on going to UT if I get off of the waitlist… i think i have a decent chance… but we will see

@timwantscollege what does that mean???
